A Letter to Bill O’Brien
Dear Coach,
Please consider this before dealing for Ryan Mallet, Brian Hoyer or whatever castoff QB Belichick threw to the junkyard. Let’s give Case Keenum a legitimate shot.
While Hoyer had a non-descript college career & Mallet had good numbers, Case was one of the most prolific QB’s in NCAA history. While Tom Savage fits the NFL QB cookie cutter image, he was a whole lotta nothin’ special in college. While you were unhappy in Happy Valley, future Hall of Famer Andre Johnson had high praise for Keenum.
Case doesn’t have an Elway or Favre cannon but he can make all the NFL throws. Honestly, this is about the ability to learn & not about the ability to throw.
Yes, Case has work to do but no more than these other guys. We know you loved Brady but don’t be stuck on the traditional looking QB. You don’t need to go further than Brees, Rodgers & Russell Wilson, all recent Super Bowl Champions to see guys who don’t fit the mold.
I’m not saying Keenum is the answer but if history matters, his history, Savage’s history, Fitzpatrick’s history, Mallet’s history, than he’s got the best chance to be good.
Let’s be fair & give him a training camp, an offensive line, running backs who can pick up a blitz & a coach who shows confidence in him for more than 3 straight complete games.
That’s all I’m really asking, Coach. In the next 2 months, give Keenum a legit shot. Let him make his case.
Regards,
