HST Holiday Podcast Final Take
What a heartwarming week it was for our Houston pro athletes & one that makes me incredibly proud these guys represent our city. Brian Cushing gave a family in need a $1,000 gift card for groceries, two $250 cards for bus rides, 3 months rent, paid off a 3 month overdue gas bill & gave them more gifts than they could fit in their living room.
Dwight Howard served breakfast & gave presents to 30 families at the Salvation Army.
For the 8th straight year, the Texans gave away 130 bicycles to kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Houston, the Texans’ YMCA & Pro-Vision. Gary Kubiak started it & every year all the players & coaches pitch in.
Andre Johnson provided a huge shopping spree for 12 at-risk children. The kids from children’s protective services brought their siblings to Toys ‘R Us. They had 80 seconds to pick out anything & everything they could fit into a shopping cart. This year the total was over $17,000.
And finally, there’s Chandler Parsons who visited 10 year old Patrick Hobbs-DeClaire in the hospital. Patrick is undergoing treatment for terminal cancer. Patrick was more worried about not looking like his twin brother than cancer. So Parsons quietly tells the family to watch the Spurs game on Christmas. They tune into see a newly shaved head on Parsons. After the Rockets won, he tweeted. “Merry Christmas, Patrick. That was for you.”
It’s just a small sample of their generosity. JJ Watt does so much you’d swear he was Superman. These guys get it & for one week, who really cares about wins or losses?
